Bratislava the most lucrative
RESIDENTIAL property in Bratislava and its vicinity is the most attractive in which to invest for foreigners. Foreign citizens are interested in apartments, houses, and even recreational cottages.
Trust authority again puts off airport decision
SLOVAKIA's largest airports in Bratislava and Košice will have to wait a little longer for their new owner to touch ground. Likewise, the TwoOne consortium, which has been on final approach since January 2006, must bide its time until it gets the final word from the Antitrust Bureau (PMÚ), Slovakia's competition authority, on whether the sale of the airports could restrain competition in the region.
What's new in Japanese film
NOT many Japanese films are screened in Slovakia. They bring a different perspective to local cinemas fed mostly with European and American productions, but regular Slovak moviegoers rarely get a taste of them.
One day they'll stay home
WHILE most Slovaks may remember their physics teacher saying that "matter never gets lost it only gets transformed", this law of nature does not apply to parliamentary elections scheduled for June 17. Young people most open about voting preferences
SEVENTEEN years after the fall of communism, many people in Slovakia are still afraid to state their political allegiances openly, the Pravda daily found.
Slovaks only wait for the boom of alternatives
SLOVAKS still do not trust alternative construction materials. Only a small percentage of people decide to build houses from wood or other alternative materials, and brick and mortar is largely preferred in Slovakia. In Western Europe, and even in some neighbouring countries like the Czech Republic, the share of alternative construction materials is increasing.
Comedy without laughter
LAUGHTER is a great way to celebrate the Year of Mozart, which marks the 250th anniversary of his birth. Mozart was an avid prankster, who even hid in-jokes in his compositions, such as traces of Martín y Soler's comic opera Una cosa rara in the banquet scene of Don Giovanni.
Old apartments getting muscles
DURING the last half year, the prices of apartments in old houses and concrete panel blocks of flats in Slovakia's capital, Bratislava, have shown quite a significant increase. The price gap between old and new apartments is narrowing.
