SLOVAKIA'S newly-arrived car giants are already facing a problem that has plagued industrial manufacturers across Europe: the lack of qualified labour.One carmaker has already brought in up to 100 foreign workers from the Balkans, but human resources experts say hiring foreign workers is not the best way to fill the gaps in the Slovak car industry's qualified workforce.

Second pillar likely to open
THE RULING coalition overcame an apparent crisis to push through to the second reading the bill that opens up the capitalisation pillar of the pension system for six months.The capitalisation, or second, pillar allows people to save for their pensions in private accounts administered by pension fund management companies. The bill would allow people to quit the pillar from the beginning of January 2008 until the end of June 2008.

SLOVAK internet users are turning away from newspapers for their job searches, and they are looking for new jobs even when they already have one.These are some outcomes of surveys on the habits and preferences of the Slovak internet community conducted by TNS SK and Mr. Think for the LMC company in August. The surveys polled 1,560 respondents, the Sme daily wrote.
