INFORMATION boards will appear in 60 locations across the Western, High, and Belianske Tatras over the next few years. Big telecoms operators have problems with dual pricing

THE BIGGEST telecommunication operators are having problems displaying dual prices in the run up to the introduction of the euro. When checking the sales and customer sites of companies or their business representatives, the Telecommunications Office found out that firms have not made accessible, in visible places, the value of the conversion rate by which all crown items will be calculated in euros from January 2009; or they have incorrectly rounded them, the ČTK newswire wrote on September 29.

Slovakia slips in world ranking

SLOVAKIA has been ranked 46th among 134 countries evaluated in the 2008-2009 Global Competitiveness Report compiled by the World Economic Forum. Going digital will require new kit.

TV will go digital; tender launched

MANY European countries are aiming to achieve full digital television coverage by 2010. In Slovakia, digital video broadcasting should fully replace the existing analogue television system no later than 2012, according to the Telecommunications Office. To meet this deadline, the office has already initiated a tender to select an operator for the first and second Digital Video Broadcasting – Terrestrial (DVB-T) multiplexes. DVB-T is an internationally accepted standard for digital television.

IN PAST weeks, Margita Mečiarová, wife of three-time former prime minister Vladimír Mečiar, has been the target of jokes about her alleged stock-market smarts. Mečiarová, it was discovered earlier this month, sold a 10-percent stake in the Trend Tatry company for Sk60 million in 2005, only months after having bought it for its nominal value of Sk1 million.
