THE TELECOMMUNICATIONS Regulatory Authority of the Slovak Republic (TÚ SR) should merge with the Postal Regulatory Authority into the Office for Regulation of Electronic Communications and Postal Services as of January 2014. The merger is part of the consolidation of regulatory authorities under the draft bill on the Office for Regulation of Electronic Communications and Postal Services and the Transport Office, which the Slovak Parliament advanced to a second reading on October 16, the TASR newswire wrote.
The revision, which also includes the merger of the Railway Regulatory Authority, the Civil Aviation Authority and the State Navigation Administration, was drafted by the Ministry of Transport, Construction and Regional Development led by Minister Ján Počiatek.
The changes seek to merge budgetary organisations under the auspices of the ministry, and reduce of the number of administrative employees (by 53), and thus costs.
The ministry estimates that the mergers will save €2.1 billion during the first three years of operation, €1.1 billion of which will come from the Office for Regulation of Electronic Communications and Postal Services.
