Trojmedzie bridge connects three countries
A PEDESTRIAN bridge linking Slovakia, Poland and the Czech Republic has opened to boost cross-border links and draw tourists."Our aim is to allow people to mix cultures and get to know each other," said Mayor Pavol Gomola of Čierne, the village where the Slovak part of the bridge is located.
Right place, right time
THE AMERICAN media company Central European Media Enterprises (CME) has become the sole owner of Slovakia's most popular television station, Markíza. The news would have been more exciting if the shares shuffle happened in 2005, when the US Department of State singled out Pavol Rusko, one of the former owners of Markíza, for "influencing TV Markíza's editorial policies, despite having divested his ownership interest."
Viva Musica! Festival recalls the joy of music

Festival is bringing a week of outdoor music concerts to the heart of Bratislava's Old Town.With its relaxed atmosphere in a central location and slew of exciting Slovak and foreign artists performing a diverse selection of audience favourites, the festival hopes to show that classical music is fun.
Smer party still most popular
THE RULING Smer party kept its spot at the top of the country's popularity chart this month, according to a new poll.The survey from the Statistics Office's Institute for Public Opinion Research showed that 43 percent of respondents would vote for Prime Minister Robert Fico's Smer if the general elections were held in early July, an increase of 2.3 percentage points since June.
