Car production in 2007 breaks records

Car plants in Slovakia produced 571,071 vehicles last year, which represents a year-on-year increase of over 300,000 cars, Jozef Uhrík, president of Slovakia's Automotive Industry Association (ZAP), told the TASR newswire on April 8. “We achieved record-high production in the three car plants that operate in Slovakia,” said Uhrík. As a result, Slovakia has become the world's leading producer of cars per capita, an indicator that stands at 105.7 cars per thousand inhabitants.

MP: Publishers don't want ownership structure made public

Dušan Jarjabek, an MP for the governing Smer-SD party, said during a discussion in the Slovak Parliament on Tuesday, April 8, that the reason why the new Press Code was being obstructed was a clause ordering publishers to make their ownership structures public once a year. Acceleration in industrial production growth surprising, but good, say analysts

Analysts were surprised by an acceleration in the increase (11.5 percent) of industrial production in February, but interpreted it as a positive development. It suggests that export-oriented industrial sectors are still doing well in Slovakia. Growth in February was faster by three percentage points than in January, while it was also faster (by 0.7 percent) than the average increase in the last quarter of 2007, VÚB Bank analyst Martin Lenko told the TASR newswire.
