Court determines new owner of Mitická mineral water company
THE TRENČÍN Regional Court has upheld the verdict of a district court that the drill hole and the production hall of the Mitická mineral water firm do not belong to the company Trenčianske Minerálne Vody. According to the court, the immovable assets are instead the property of Minerál-Invod, the company which drilled the original bore in 1992. The court also assigned land plots to the company last year, the SITA newswire wrote.
Slovak Telekom and T-Mobile plan to merge next year
TWO major telecom companies operating in Slovakia, fixed-line operator Slovak Telekom and mobile operator T-Mobile Slovensko plan to merge next year. T-Mobile Slovensko is currently a wholly-owned subsidiary of Slovak Telekom, which is controlled by Deutsche Telekom. The merger plans were announced on October 15.
EU Commissioner describes dispute over Sólyom's ban into Slovakia as bilateral issue

The changeover to the euro had only minimal impact on inflation in Slovakia. Slovakia’s Finance Ministry’s Financial Policy Institute (IFP) calculated that the changeover contributed to inflation by only 0.18 percentage points, which is in line with the previous analyses of Slovakia’s central bank. The National Bank of Slovakia (NBS) had calculated the impact of the euro changeover on inflation to be between 0.12 and 0.19 percentage points, the SITA newswire wrote.
Minimum wage decision is postponed by Slovak cabinet
At its regular Wednesday meeting, Slovakia’s government cabinet did not arrive at a final decision on what minimum wage increase will take effect at the beginning of next year. The cabinet postponed discussion on the proposal by Labour Minister Viera Tomanová to increase the minimum wage by 8.1 percent to €319.50 as of January 2010. Further negotiations between representatives of employees and then with associations of employers are now expected.
Multifunctional complex announced for area south of Bratislava
TriGranit corporation plans to build a new entertainment and relaxation zone south of Bratislava which will offer its visitors not only various activities but also gambling opportunities. The investment is projected at €1.5 billion over five years. The 30-hectare site is adjacent to the districts of Petržalka and Jarovce at the intersection of the D2 and D4 highways that lead to Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest and Prague. The project was announced by TriGranit director Simon Balley, according to the SITA newswire.
Slovak pensioners to again receive Christmas bonuses
Retired citizens of Slovakia receiving low pensions will get Christmas bonuses in 2009 as in earlier years. The government cabinet green lighted the bonuses at its session on October 14. The social security provider Sociálna Poisťovňa will pay nearly €62.6 million in total in Christmas bonuses from state budget funds, the SITA newswire wrote.
