Slovak cabinet session postponed until Thursday due to Easter
In view of the Easter holidays, a cabinet session due to take place on Wednesday, April 27, has been postponed until Thursday, April 28, government spokesperson Ľubica Pilzová said on Tuesday, April 26, as quoted by the TASR newswire. In addition, a session of the government's Legislative Council has been moved from Tuesday to Wednesday.
SBA: No reason for extra tax, as banks paid €267m in tax in 2010
Banks paid €266.90 million in direct and indirect taxes into Slovakia's state budget last year, the Slovak Banking Association (SBA) said on Tuesday, April 26. Of the total, €173.40 million was paid in the form of income tax, with indirect taxes, non-deductible tax and VAT accounting for the remainder.
Pharmacists blast Health Ministry over proposed Medicine Act

Nearly half of jobless Slovaks without work for more than 12 months
Nearly half of the unemployed Slovaks registered at job centres have not been able to find a new job for more than a year, according to the latest figures released by the Labour, Social Affairs and the Family Centre (ÚPSVaR), which reported that 48.03 percent, or 188,500 people out of 392,483 jobseekers registered at job centres in March had been jobless for more than a year, the TASR newswire wrote.

Coalition Council to hold special session on General Prosecutor vote
The co-governing Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) has requested an extraordinary session of the Coalition Council to discuss a forthcoming parliamentary vote on a new General Prosecutor for Slovakia, party spokesman Matej Kováč told the TASR newswire on April 25. The session is to take place in KDH headquarters on April 26 at 17:00.
Fire attacks Staré Hory forest area again
Fire fighters continued to wrestle with a forest fire near the village of Staré Hory in Banská Bystrica Region that broke out again on April 21 even though earlier reports said that the fire had been extinguished, the TASR newswire wrote. "We haven't managed to put out the fire as yet. Around 1.5 to 2 hectares of forest are in flames," said Bibiana Bendíková, spokesperson for the Banská Bystrica Regional Fire Brigade Headquarters.
