Veľká Studená (Great Cold) valley is a favourite hiking route in the High Tatras for many tourists. Slavkovský Peak belongs among the best-known peaks in the valley.
It was named after the stream Studený Potok (Cold stream) that arose by connection of the Great and Small Cold Stream.
It is a valley with the biggest number of mountain lakes, 26 in total. The largest one is Ľadové (Ice) mountain lake that lies at an altitude of 2,057 metres above sea level.
The first mountain chalet of the valley was Rainer chalet. This one is also easily accessible for wheelchair users. The second chalet to visit is Zbojnícka.
