Leading lights brighten up city

THE INTERNATIONAL Bratislava Music Festival (BHS) turns 40 this week. To mark the anniversary of this most prestigious event in the classical music calendar, the organisers have invited along a host of acclaimed artists to turn the festival into a fiesta of stars."Briefly, the programme offers six orchestras from abroad and two from Slovakia; two choirs, several chamber ensembles, and 10 renowned conductors," said the chairman of the festival committee, Miloš Jurkovič.

Theatre talent in line for top awards

ROLAND Schimmelpfennig's play Die Arabische Nacht (The Arabian Night) directed by Martin Čičvák is a strong candidate for the Slovak theatre's Dosky 2004 awards in five out of eight categories, the daily Pravda reported. The awards will be announced during the Theatrical Nitra festival on September 24.
