Storks return to sunny north
THE FIRST white stork of the year in Slovakia was spotted on March 15, returning home from its winter holidays. Peter Pajtáš, a teacher at the local school in Vlkanová, close to Banská Bystrica, reported the arrival of the graceful bird to the Slovak Association for Protection of Birds (SOVS).
Over here, over there
SLOVAK Minister of Education Martin Fronc and US Chargé d'Affaires Scott Thayer signed an agreement March 22 to continue the Fulbright programme in Slovakia.

Court delays ruling on anti-discrimination law
THE CONSTITUTIONAL Court has postponed its hearing regarding anti-discrimination legislation until May 4. At that time, the nation's high court is expected to deliver a verdict on a case that has divided Slovakia's cabinet members and distressed its politicians.
Deficit no great shakes
AT FIRST glance Slovakia's trade results are worrisome. The country's 2004 foreign trade deficit topped out at Sk47 billion (€1.23 billion), which is 92 percent more than in the previous year.
