Červený Kameň castle's rifles

THEORIES of ballistics have come a long way since the Middle Ages. In 1522, for example, people believed that gunpowder was a devilish product and that bullets were impelled through the air by a small demon riding astride them. Weapons have come a long way as well. Steeling an opportunity

THE LARGEST US investor in Slovakia intends to strengthen its presence on the Slovak market. Košice-based US Steel will open a new production link, effectively increasing its staff by a hundred people.An announcement made by company headquarters, situated in Pittsburgh, USA, said that the company would build a new hot dip galvanizing (HDG) facility at its steelmaking operation in Košice.

"VERY odd, I have never seen anything like this," a visitor to an exhibition by Miloš Boďa at the Bratislava City Gallery commented. The astounded viewer turned and asked a nearby guard, "Aren't you scared of working amongst these monsters?"

Count Pálffy's tears?

"WHEREVER I die, my corpse is to be brought to Bojnice and buried in a simple black robe in the crypt directly beneath the main altar of the castle."Such was Count Ján František Pálffy's wish in 1889. Over the following 22 years he set about having the whole castle, not just the crypt, rebuilt. By the time the Romantic neo-gothic reconstruction of Bojnice was completed, the count was dead.
