How will Rusko be remembered?
THE MEMORY of the masses is merciless and myopic. Even if a man donated millions to charity, he would be remembered for "stealing" Sk1,000 if he could not sufficiently explain its source to a curious public. It is truly fascinating to see how politicians are remembered, how their names go down in history.
Sail away with the sounds of summer
SAILING the Danube draws tourists every year to Bratislava's annual Summer of Culture festival. They especially look forward to day cruises featuring onboard musical performances. Flamenco, klezmer, opera and country have all recently been heard floating up from the Martin boat as it plies its way to Devín and back.
Cameras focus on Poprad for one week
THERE are subjects you like to shoot and subjects you hate. Early elections considered
WITH THE IMMINENT removal of Economy Minister Pavol Rusko and signs of his New Citizen's Alliance (ANO) party dividing into camps, questions regarding the future of Mikuláš Dzurinda's government are brought to the foreground.
You are what you eat
IT IS NOW legal to import genetically modified (GM) sweet corn plants into Slovakia. Despite a no vote by 14 European Union environment ministers, the European Commission decided to allow GM sweet corn to flood the EU market.
Foreign student famine
CHARLES University in Prague, the largest and oldest university in the Czech Republic, attracts more than three times as many foreign students as Comenius University in Bratislava, its Slovak counterpart. Whereas 2,000 foreign students (many of them Slovaks) take classes at Charles University, only 550 foreign students are enrolled at Comenius.
