How will Rusko be remembered?

THE MEMORY of the masses is merciless and myopic. Even if a man donated millions to charity, he would be remembered for "stealing" Sk1,000 if he could not sufficiently explain its source to a curious public. It is truly fascinating to see how politicians are remembered, how their names go down in history.

Cameras focus on Poprad for one week

One of the workshops at the annual Summer Photoschool in Poprad challenged participants to focus on detested themes or implement unpopular photo techniques. What at first seems like mission impossible actually ended with applause, since the activity uncovered hidden abilities and freed former restraints.

State fine tunes tax reform

TRUE to its promise, the Finance Ministry is refining the radical tax laws it pushed through in 2003. Finance Minister Ivan Mikloš recently proposed a draft revision to existing tax legislation that would create equal taxing conditions for a wide range of professions.

Foreign student famine

CHARLES University in Prague, the largest and oldest university in the Czech Republic, attracts more than three times as many foreign students as Comenius University in Bratislava, its Slovak counterpart. Whereas 2,000 foreign students (many of them Slovaks) take classes at Charles University, only 550 foreign students are enrolled at Comenius.
