Two more fires wound Detox
THE THICK black smoke that worried Bratislava citizens on June 18 also scared inhabitants of Rimavská Sobota and Banská Bystrica less then a month later when more flammable liquids belonging to the same firm, Detox, burned on July 13.
Funds give the feel of a real Europe
EU FUNDS have given Slovak regions and municipalities the experience of being part of a united Europe. The EU funds have helped to solve concrete day-to-day problems such as putting a new roof for a school or adding a sewage system for a village.
Infrastructure and knowledge a priority
According to a number of EU fund experts, Slovakia should concentrate on projects geared to long-term economic and social strategies. The experts especially recommend focusing on funds that will upgrade the knowledge-based economy, infrastructure and culture.
Bratislava castle tells tinker stories
SLOVAK grannies certainly remember the times, when tinkers came to their village and called out their typical Hrnce, misky, drótovať! (Pots and bowls to tinker!). Almost every house collected some dishes that broke or were damaged since the last visit of the tinker. With little possibility to replace dishes with new ones, the homemakers looked forward with much anticipation to the arrival of these wandering menders. As they set to work they also told stories of their experiences in distant and different places.
Kremnica organ fills summer with music
FOR THE LAST ten years, the picturesque town of Kremnica has resonated with the sounds of the popular European Organ Festival, also known as the Kremnica Castle Organ, which promotes modern interpretations of classical works.
