SOFT drink producer and distributor Kofola has bought the rights to the popular soft drink Vinea from Slovak wine producer Vitis Pezinok.

THE CENTRE Studia Academica Slovaca (SAS) introduced in Bratislava on February 15 a new textbook for foreigners learning Slovak.
Central bank keeps key interest rates on hold again
THE KEY interest rate remained unchanged in February. Conclusions from the meeting of the central bank's board on February 27 show that deviations in macroeconomic development from predictions of the National Bank of Slovakia (NBS) were caused by cost or one-time factors. Thus, the NBS had no reason to change its current monetary policy setting, the SITA newswire wrote.

Illegal cigarette workshop shut down
SLOVAK police uncovered an illegal cigarette production in Moravský Svätý Ján, in western Slovakia. During a search of a former agriculture cooperative on February 15, customs officers and police detained nine Vietnamese workers operating illegal lines, the SITA newswire wrote.
Kia and Hyundai to sell each other parts
AS PART of an agreement between the two companies, the new Kia plant near Žilina will start producing Hyundai engines and the Hyundai plant near Nošovice, Czech Republic will produce Kia's gearboxes, the ČTK newswire wrote.

Internet mega merger starts
INTERNET portals Centrum.sk and Atlas.sk are to have a single owner. Their parent companies NetCentrum.cz and Atlas.cz officially announced on February 26 that the Dutch company Centrum.cz Holding controlled by US fund Warburg Pincus has acquired both, the Hospodárske Noviny daily wrote.
