Solidarity march for Cuban opposition

ABOUT 50 Bratislavans joined a march in solidarity with the Ladies in White Cuban opposition movement in the capital on March 17. Priests Anton Srholec and Daniel Pastirčák, and politicians Vladimír Palko, František Mikloško and Ján Čarnogurský attended the march organised by the Pontis Foundation and the NGO People in Peril. Former Cuban political prisoner Osvaldo Alfonso Valdes also marched in Bratislava, the SITA newswire wrote.

Slovakia looks for tax-dodgers in Liechtenstein

SLOVAKIA has joined a list of countries which have asked Germany for information from a list of Liechtenstein foundations and funds which are allegedly hiding about €200 million in untaxed funds. Iveta Adamíková, the spokesperson for the Slovak tax directorate, confirmed this to the ČTK newswire on March 12. It is alleged that Slovak companies and entrepreneurs have used financial institutions in Liechtenstein for tax evasion.

The wooden church of Leštiny

THIS beautiful Protestant church in Leštiny, a village in the Orava region, was built between 1688 and 1689. It was originally constructed exclusively from wood because that's what Protestants were constrained to using under a list of laws called the articula. Therefore, this style of church eventually became known as artikulárne (articular).
