Hundreds of illegal workers found in second half of 2007

LABOUR inspectorates, labour offices, tax authorities and police uncovered 1,276 cases of illegal work in the second half of 2007. Labour inspectors were the most successful, discovering 655 illegal labourers, the SITA newswire wrote. In 428 of these cases, employers had failed in their duty to report workers to Sociálna Poisťovňa, the social security provider.

Frequencies for sale; lukewarm welcome

A NEW SET of mobile frequencies in Slovakia are being put up for sale, which could allow a fourth mobile operator to enter the Slovak telecommunication market, or one of the existing operators to broaden their reach. The catch is that the frequency package is intended for high-speed mobile internet, rather than voice, traffic. And, so far at least, none of the existing operators are rushing to bid.

Airport’s plans for take-off

BRATISLAVA airport has some lofty ambitions. By 2012, it hopes to boost its capacity to serve 5 million passengers per year, providing investment plans work out. Bratislava promises, among other things, a new passenger terminal and growth in the surrounding facilities. While the airport knows how it will finance its initial investments, it hasn’t yet confirmed exactly where the money is coming from to pay for the second stage of the ambitious plan.
