PPF's purchase of Telefónica confirmed
THE COMPANY PPF, owned by Czech businessman Petr Kellner, has officially confirmed the purchase of the Czech and Slovak branches of the mobile operator Telefónica, which provides telecom services and internet connection under the brand O2. The firm will buy 66-percent stock for €2.467 billion. The purchase has to be confirmed by regulatory offices, the Sme.sk website reported.

BAKI Sadiki, a Kosovar Albanian suspected of drug trafficking, will likely receive a new trial now that the Justice Ministry has withdrawn its plan to challenge the decision that granted Sadiki a re-trial.
Prosecutor's Office denies Gorilla connection with Nicholson wiretap
THE GENERAL Prosecutor’s Office has denied any connection between the alleged wiretapping of journalist Tom Nicholson and the investigation of the Gorilla file, a lengthy document that purports to describe an operation conducted by the Slovak Information Service (SIS), the country’s main intelligence agency, in which it collected information about the influence of the Penta financial group on senior Slovak politicians between 2005 and 2006. The wiretap took place between November 2010 and January 2011.
Interpol praises Slovakia
SECRETARY General of Interpol Ronald Kenneth Noble appreciated Slovakia’s work in the Infra-Red operation, designed to capture wanted fugitives believed to be living abroad. Thanks to the operation the inspectors were able to find Kosovar-Albanian drug lord Baki Sadiki in Kosovo, as well as Viliam Mišenka, charged with having participated in the murder of alleged gang leader Peter Čongrády, in Venezuela, and Karol Mello, suspected of organising several murders, in Belize.
Budget deficit drops by €494 million
SLOVAKIA’S state budget deficit shrank compared with both the previous month and the previous year. At the end of October the deficit stood at €1.972 billion, which is €494 million, or 20 percent, less than last year. The implementation of the budget stood at 64 percent, which the ministry says is better than expected, the SITA newswire reported on November 4.
Slovakia’s military presence in NATO to be upgraded
SLOVAKIA will have two more military representatives in NATO and EU offices as of December, according to the proposal for upgrading Slovak military representation in the military structures of NATO and EUFOR (European Union Forces), TASR reported.

Telecom, postal authorities to merge
THE TELECOMMUNICATIONS Regulatory Authority of the Slovak Republic (TÚ SR) should merge with the Postal Regulatory Authority into the Office for Regulation of Electronic Communications and Postal Services as of January 2014. The merger is part of the consolidation of regulatory authorities under the draft bill on the Office for Regulation of Electronic Communications and Postal Services and the Transport Office, which the Slovak Parliament advanced to a second reading on October 16, the TASR newswire wrote.
