Growth prognosis lowered (CORRECTED VERSION)

BANK analysts have slightly corrected their economic growth prognosis for this and next year. While in October they expected the economy to grow at 0.9 percent, they now say it will grow by 0.8 percent in 2013. The prognosis for 2014 says that the economy will grow at 1.9 percent, down by 0.2 percentage points compared to October’s expectations. In July, they forecast the economy would grow by 2.3 percent in 2014, the SITA newswire reported on November 26, citing the regular monthly survey of the National Bank of Slovakia (NBS), the country’s central bank, for November.

THE NEW internet portal Nemlčme.sk was launched on International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women to offer shelter and help to victims of sexual violence. THE SALARIES of employees of public and state administrations will increase next year, based on two collective agreements which representatives of the government, municipalities and trade unions signed on November 25. Kotleba files criminal complaint over alleged document shredding

THE BANSKÁ Bystrica self-governing region is allegedly shredding documents and contracts, and erasing computer hard drives, according to Marian Kotleba, who was recently elected to govern the region. He filed a criminal complaint over the abuse of power by a public official and embezzlement with police on November 25. Yet, region spokesperson Monika Pastuchová has called the allegations nonsense.

Court hands Slota €5,000 fine and 16-month driving ban

THE ČADCA District Court has upheld the original verdict for Ján Slota, former chair of the Slovak National Party (SNS), punishing him with a €5,000 fine and a 16-month ban from driving.
