Enel plans clear, Austria unhappy
AFTER much speculation, the future of the Mochovce power plant in Bratislava is clear: Enel intends to complete the nuclear facility.Enel Chairman Paolo Scaroni made no secret of making Mochovce a priority for the Italian power utility that is purchasing a majority share in Slovenské elektrárne. He declared his intentions February 17, the day Economy Minister Pavol Rusko and Scaroni signed documents transferring a 66-percent stake in Slovenské elektrárne to Enel.
One World tours country's regions
THE INTERNATIONAL One World festival of documentary films focussing on human rights' issues will stop in three different Slovak towns in March.Banská Bystrica viewers can watch documentaries about refugees and diverse cultures from March 9 to 10. They can also meet with refugees living in Slovakia and hear their personal stories. In Banská Štiavnica the festival screenings are part of school lessons, but the public can see photographs by Cuban political prisoners' wives and mothers and join a discussion about Cuba. Košice's ambition is to present a large number of films, discussions, and photographic exhibitions focussing on human rights' violations around the world.
Superpowers play polite
MINUTES after concluding their summit talks at Bratislava Castle, US President George W Bush and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin told an eager clutch of journalists that they found many issues to agree on during their meeting. However, the only unambiguous accord between the leaders is that neither superpower wants North Korea or Iran to have nuclear weapons.
