THIS is contentment, I think, leaning back on the wooden bench smoothed, I imagine, by the many people who have sat here before me. Around me rises the hubbub of a Slovak crowd. Voices from all sides bounce like the dim light off the tables and chairs. It is warm here and I do not just mean the temperature.

Topvar set to sell shares

SOUTH African corporation SABMiller is ready to add another Slovak brewery to its shopping basket. In addition to Šariš, which it acquired in 1997, the group intends to buy a 95-percent stake in Topvar.

Art and light shine in Žilina

RECORDS on colourful stained glass windows reach back to the ninth century, though the art fully developed in the 12th century. The huge works found in Gothic cathedrals represent the apotheosis of the art. Stained glass windows often showed scenes from the Bible and they were used to educate the illiterate as well as evoke mystical awe in the congregation.
