Rich mix of features, shorts and documentaries under one roof
THE INTERNATIONAL Film Festival Bratislava brings 177 films to seven theatres in one cinema complex in the city's Aupark shopping centre. Each theatre is showing four movies a day, which means 260 screenings. For the festival's programme director, Peter Nágel, that is not nearly enough.

Because her boyfriend brutally beat her, she thought of ending the relationship. He threatened to kill her. He said he would suffocate her, cut her into pieces, grind her in a mill and nobody would find her. She believed his threats and was frightened.
Christmas markets: Ho! Ho! Ho!
A Christmas market takes place in Hlavné námestie and Hviezdoslavovo námestie during Advent. Vendors from local shops and charitable organizations sell trinkets, crafts, and food daily until December 23.
EU agency: Roma face most discrimination
THE EUROPEAN Monitoring Centre on Racism and Xenophobia (EUMC) confirmed that the Roma face the most intense discrimination of any ethnic group within the enlarged European Union.
Slovakia granted more money for nuclear shutdown
IT SEEMS the experience of shutting down the V1 nuclear power plant in Jaslovské Bohunice will be less financially painful to Slovakia than previously expected. The European Parliament decided to increase the amount of money it would pay Slovakia to decommission the plant to €400 million.
Ruling parties, especially KDH, successful in regional elections
SLOVAKIA'S second-ever regional elections over the past weekend drew a turnout of only 18 percent, and rewarded the right-wing parties of the ruling coalition, especially the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH), with better election results than the parties of the political opposition.
