TOWNS have barely received the first snowflakes but the ski centres already tempt with perfect snow and great slopes. This season promises a lot. Slovak ski centres have invested more money than ever into modernization.

Midnight move pegs crown to euro, ushers in ERM II

ON MIDNIGHT November 25, Slovakia tied the crown to the euro and consequently entered the Exchange Rate Mechanism II (ERM II). The surprise move, taking place seven months earlier than originally planned, brought Slovakia another step closer to euro adoption.

Ski focus: Snowland in Valča

TO FIND the land of snow in Slovakia go north. Fourteen kilometres from Martin in the direction of Banská Bystrica, on the hills of the Malá Fatra that slope down to Valčianska dolina (valley), lies the ski centre Snowland.

With the unprecedented success of JK Rowling's books, these films have a substantial built-in audience. Many of the movies' fans, of course, have never read one of Rowling's words.
