Slovak and Czech Presidents commemorate August 1968 in Bratislava
The Slovak and Czech Presidents, Ivan Gašparovič and Václav Klaus, laid flowers on August 21 at Šafárikovo Square in Bratislava, at a memorial commemorating the deaths of unarmed civilians at the hands of Soviet-led armed invaders in August 1968. August 21 marks the 40th anniversary of the invasion.

Sixteen EU Member States have cheaper petrol than Slovakia
A recent decline in motor fuel prices has halted in several EU states. And according to internet portal natankuj.sk, Slovakia has dropped one spot in petrol price chart to the seventeenth position. As for diesel prices, the country maintained its twenty-sixth position. Bulgaria had the cheapest petrol with 95-octane petrol averaging of Sk32.43 (€1.076) per litre. It also led the diesel price chart, with an average price of Sk34.13 (€1.133) per litre. The average price of 95 octane petrol in Slovakia was Sk40.82 (€1.355) as of August 18; a litre of diesel cost Sk43.77 (€1.453) on average. SITA
Govt OKs pricing bill to prevent unjustified price rises
The government approved a draft amendment on August 20 to the Pricing Law that allows for the regulation of prices, as a last resort, in cases where unjustified growth upon switchover to the euro is identified, the TASR newswire wrote.
Anti-monopoly bureau slaps Slovak Telekom with Sk885 fine
Slovak Telekom (ST) has been fined Sk885 million (€28.38 million) for abusing its dominant position on the market, Alexandra Bernáthová from the anti-monopoly bureau (PMÚ) told the TASR newswire on August 20.

Audit Office: Land Fund made mistakes in land restitutions
According to a report by the Supreme Audit Office released on August 18, the Slovak Land Fund (SPF) violated rules upon land restitutions to private individuals, the Church, and religious groups in the years of 2004 to 2007 and "there are still shortcomings in its operation".
