Units of Nováky power plant resume after fire

Electricity producer Slovenské Elektrárne (SE) will resume operation of two units of the Nováky thermal power plant (ENO) that was halted on January 12 due to a fire on the coal supply conveyor belts. SE reconnected the first ENO unit to the grid on the evening of January 19 and the second is ready for full operation and will be connected when required by the electricity transmission network (SEPS), SE spokesman Juraj Kopøiva told the SITA newswire.

ŽOS Zvolen wins railway car upgrade tender

The state-run railway passenger company, Železnicna Spoloènost Slovensko (ŽSSK Slovensko), will pay €12.74 million to upgrade its diesel and passenger cars for 12 trains, reported the SITA newswire. Železnièné Opravovne a Strojár(ŽOS)of Zvolen won this two-year contract in a public tender as the single bidder. The contract was signed on January 15, according to information published in the EU official journal.

Kubiš tells Austria that nuclear start up less likely

Slovakia's Foreign Affairs Minister Ján Kubiš notified his Austrian counterpart, Michael Spindelegger, on January 19 that Slovakia had secured sufficient gas supplies from the Yamal pipeline via the Czech Republic and that this has made restarting of the Jaslovske Bohunice nuclear plant unnecessary, at least for the time being, the TASR newswire wrote. Due to the expected resumption of gas supplies from Russia via Ukraine this week, restarting the nuclear reactor is becoming less and less probable, Kubiš said to TASR, adding that Slovakia is still prepared to restart the reactor if it is necessary to do so. According to Kubiš's spokesman Jan Skoda, Spindelegger welcomed the news and praised Slovakia's neighbourly attitude towards Austria vis-a-vis the nuclear power plant.

So far, no Russian gas coming to Europe through Ukraine

There is still no Russian gas flowing to Europe through Ukraine, even though both countries agreed on the price for this commodity on January 18, a European Commission spokesman, Johannes Laitenberger, announced on January 19. Acute respiratory illness up 68 % in Nitra region

The number of acute respiratory illnesses in the Nitra region rose by 68 percent compared to last week. The Regional Office of Public Healthcare (RÚVZ) in Nitra has registered more than 8,300 persons as ill with 1,374 of those people with the flu and related illnesses, an increase of 74 percent since last week.

WHAT a fine, unusual Advent concert took place on December 13 in Stupava’s main church at 17:00, sharp!
