Transport Ministry to spend Sk391 mln. on PPP consulting
The Transport Ministry will spend Sk391.3 million without VAT on consulting services for highway and dual carriageway PPP (public private partnership) construction projects.
Excluded highway tender applicants can still turn to ÚVO
The Transport Ministry has already answered the three applicants who appealed the ministry's decision to exclude them from the first tender for the construction and operation of the five D1 highway stretches between Martin and Prešov, ministry spokesman Marián Janošík confirmed to the SITA newswire on February 13.

Parliament rejects some revisions to land law
Parliament opened its parliamentary session on February 12 with a draft amendment to the law on land arrangements, which was submitted by SDKÚ-DS MPs Pavol Frešo and Lucia Žitňanská. The MPs say it is in response to the lack of transparency that has existed at the Slovak Land Fund (SPF) for a long time.

Almost 7,000 new cars registered in Slovakia in January
In January, 6 862 new passenger cars and small commercial vehicles of up to 3.5 tonnes were registered in Slovakia, up 43.76 percent from the same period last year, Marta Nováková of the Automotive Industry Association (ZAP) informed the SITA newswire.

Prosecutor opens doors to churches
THE GENERAL Prosecutor has contested the rules for registration of new churches in Slovakia, the Hospodárske Noviny daily wrote. It claims that the one-year old legislation is unconstitutional and discriminatory. Deputy General Prosecutor Ladislav Tichý particularly doubts the requirement that a church acquire 20,000 signatures from members to become registered.
Choňkovce could have its own bio-gas power plant
THE AGRICULTURAL cooperative Choňkovce in eastern Slovakia wants to construct its own bio-gas power plant worth Sk75 million. The cooperative has a complete design and documents for the construction, however, financing the venture is still in doubt. It wants to obtain one part of the money from Euro-funds, the cooperative chairman Ján Petro told the ČTK newswire.

BANKS operating in Slovakia closed 2007 with a taxed profit of Sk17.173 billion (€510 million), which is down 3.4 percent from 2006. The National Bank of Slovakia (NBS) announced the preliminary results on February 1, the SITA newswire wrote.

Free calls can be made from the landline network T-Com as well as mobile operators T-Mobile, Orange and O2.
