NBS to lower basic interest rate to 3.75 percent in line with ECB
The National Bank of Slovakia (NBS) has lowered its key interest rate from the current 4.25 percent to 3.75 percent as of October 29, NBS spokesperson Jana Kováčová told the TASR newswire on October 28.

Price of agricultural products down 0.6 percent in September
The price of agricultural products fell in September for the first time this year, recording a drop of 0.6 percent year-to-year, the Statistics Office announced on October 27.
Petrol prices to drop by 80 hellers, diesel by 50 hellers
As of October 27, petrol prices at Slovak filling stations will drop by another 80 hellers (€0.026) per litre, the Tankovanie.sk Web site wrote. The price of diesel will drop by 50 hellers (€0.016) per litre.

President Ivan Gašparovič travelled to the Czech Republic on October 27 to meet his Czech counterpart Václav Klaus for a commemoration of the 90th anniversary of the founding of the first Czechoslovak Republic, the president's press department told the TASR newswire.

Banking rumbles grow louder

New LCD lines launched in Voderady
SOUTH KOREAN company Samsung Electronics officially opened its second production site in Slovakia on October 17. Based in the western town of Voderady, the site will bring Samsung’s number of LCD production lines to six by the end of the year. Over time, the plant will have 11 lines with a total annual production capacity of 10 million LCD modules. The company wants to reach full production capacity by 2011.
SkyEurope partners with Italian airline
THE FINANCIAL crisis and the increasing costs of running an airline have caused Slovak low-cost carrier SkyEurope to enter into an alliance and business partnership with Italian low-cost airline Myair.com, the Hospodárske Noviny financial daily wrote on October 20.
