Flood situation in Trebišov is improving
Only the Bodrog River is rising in Trebišov district in Košice region, as the Latorica River is returning to more normal water levels and the Ondava River has stabilised, the TASR newswire was told by the head of Trebišov District Office, Robert Puci, on May 20. He said the weather forecasts are favourable, with no further heavy rain expected. "Waterflows are steadily stabilising and dropping. As soon as the water level of the Bodrog goes down, it will in turn bring down the Ondava's level. Then we'll be able to run the water off from the Trnávka River and also from the flooded area between Ondava and Trnávka embankments – and finally, from the flooded fields," he stated.
KDH files criminal complaint regarding Smer funding sources
Ján Figeľ, the chairman of the opposition Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) and his deputy and former justice minister Daniel Lipšic, filed a criminal complaint on May 20 with the prosecutor general over allegations of non-transparent funding of the leading ruling coalition party Smer, the SITA newswire reported.

European People’s Party demurs on dual citizenship roundtable until after Slovakia’s election
A round table on the contentious Hungarian Law on Dual Citizenship involving Slovakia and Hungary will not take place before the end of May, the TASR newswire wrote. Representatives of the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) asked on May 18 for such a round table to be convened this month at the European People's Party (EPP) headquarters in Brussels. However, following the talks held between EPP Chairman Wilfried Martens and leader of Hungarian Fidesz party Viktor Orbán, the meeting has been postponed to late June – after the Slovak June 12 parliamentary election.
Prosecutor will investigate allegations against Smer only if a criminal action is filed
Prosecutor-General Dobroslav Trnka said on May 19 that his office will not act on new allegations made by a former senior member of Smer, Bohumil Hanzel, in an interview with the Sme daily about the sponsorship relations within the party unless Hanzel files a criminal complaint concerning the matter, the TASR newswire wrote. Hanzel’s claims concern sponsorship methods in which he was engaged while serving as a co-founder of Smer.

Solar power industry protests reduced electricity price
Representatives of companies that are building solar power plants in Slovakia protested on Wednesday, May 19, against a new decree by the Office for Regulation of Network Industries (ÚRSO) according to which the guaranteed purchase price of electrical energy generated by these sources will be decreased. "The proposed reduction is in clear contradiction with the law on support to renewable energy sources, which allows a year-on-year reduction of purchase price of energy from renewable sources by a maximum of ten percent," wrote companies active in the solar power industry in a statement, as quoted by the SITA newswire.
