Churches come to the castle
THE WOODEN church architecture of the Carpathian basin is one of the most valuable pieces of Central European culture heritage.Many traditional churches, temples and belfries in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia were pulled down and replaced by modern ecclesiastical structures, but many have been preserved.

.THOUGH it may, at first sight, look like a large barn, the building in this picture from the 1920s is actually one of the most outstanding monuments in the Tatra region.It is a wooden Protestant church, built in Kežmarok in 1714.
If Smer ruled Slovakia
THE OPPOSITION Smer party, which leads public opinion polls with 30 percent of the popular vote, would revise the cabinet's reforms if it became a major force in government.The national elections are still one and half years away. Still, left-wing Smer already outlined the revisions it would make to existing economic and social reforms if it gains power.
Transaltantic talks fire up
THE DEMOCRACY conference at the Slovak Foreign Affairs Ministry February 23 sizzled with emotions unusual at such diplomatic meets. Member of Parliament Giorgi Bokeria from Georgia, for example, drawn into debate about the direction of Russia's democracy, charged in a booming voice, "[Russian President Vladmir] Putin's either with us or against us!"
