Members of the Slovak Parliament will not debate the €800-million loan that Slovakia, as a eurozone member, is slated to provide to Greece under the terms of an EU-agreed bailout plan. Hungarian police are expected to put 11 arrested football fans before the Municipal Court in Encs, a town in north-eastern Hungary, on Thursday, May 13, following disturbances linked to the Slovak Cup final on Tuesday.
Statistics Office estimates Slovakia’s GDP grew by 4.6 percent in 1Q10
According to a flash estimate published by the Statistics Office on Wednesday, May 12, the Slovak economy grew by 4.6 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of this year. This is the first registered growth in Slovak GDP since 4Q08.
No parliamentary debate on Greek rescue package after MPs fail to turn up

Employment in Slovakia in Q1 is down 3 percent year-on-year
According to Slovakia’s Statistics Office there were 2.133 million employed persons in the first quarter of this year and that figure is 3 percent less than the same period last year, the SITA newswire wrote. After seasonal adjustments the office reported that 2.142 million people were employed in the January-March period, a year-on-year drop of 3.2 percent.
OECD economist says Slovak fiscal consolidation plan is reliable
Slovakia's public finance consolidation plan is trustworthy, according to Pier Carlo Padoan, the chief economist for the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) who met Prime Minister Robert Fico in Bratislava on May 11, the TASR newswire reported. However, Padoan stated that the process of fiscal consolidation should be accompanied by reforms designed to boost the country's economic growth. According to him, Slovakia, along with many other countries hit hard by the global economic recession last year, is now recovering well in European terms, achieving rapid growth.

Private sector employment in Slovakia shrinks by 9.1 percent in March
The number of Slovak employees in the non-governmental sector of the economy continued to fall in March, going down by 9.1 percent from a year earlier, the SITA newswire reported. The data released by Slovakia’s Statistics Office showed that wholesale businesses reported a decline in staff by 19.8 percent in March, information and communication technologies by 15.2 percent and restaurants and hotels by 9.5 percent y-o-y.
