Slovak customs officers find smuggled Ukrainian cigarettes

Following the resumption of the freight train inspection scanning device at the railway border crossing with Ukraine in Maťovce two weeks ago, Slovak customs officers have found smuggled cigarettes on one of the trains. They now scan the trains beginning from the fourth car and subsequently made a thorough examination of one of the freight cars. Under a load of iron ore they found 600 cartons of cigarettes with Ukrainian revenue stamps packed in black plastic bags.

Commercial DVB-T broadcasting to start at the end of 2009

Commercial digital terrestrial television broadcasting (DVB-T) in Slovakia will begin at the end of this year. The spokesman for the Slovak Telecommunications Office, Roman Vavro, told the SITA newswire that “according to valid and effective licenses for transmission of television program service in the DVB-T standard, which the Telecommunications Office issued to the company Towercom, the holder of the licenses is obliged to launch commercial services of the first multiplex network on December 31, 2009 and at that time signal must cover 79.7 percent of the population.”
